KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Two tremendous runs at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals came to an end on Saturday.
After being the last Boilermaker standing in the main singles draw, Carmen Guevara dropped a hard-fought three set match to the nation's No. 17 player Elza Tomase. Guevara's determination showed in the second set as she pushed the Tennessee Volunteer to her limit and emerged with a 7-6(6) win to even the match. However, Tomase pulled away in the final set with a 6-4 decision to advance to the quarterfinal.
Guevara ends her ITA run with a 3-1 record in singles and suffered her first loss of the fall season. She is a whopping 9-1 as the Boilermakers enter their final preseason tournament at FGCU.
The second of the spectacular performances was that of Csilla Fodor/Kennedy Gibbs. The pair was 0-3 entering the regional but brought their record back to .500 as they rattled off three wins in the main doubles draw. Theirs was the consecutive appearance in the quarterfinals for Purdue, but ended there.
Fodor/Gibbs dropped their Saturday match 8-3 to Xavier's Imani Graham/Anna Roggenburk. They also end their ITA run with a 3-1 record bringing their record as a team to 3-4.
