Boilers Advance 7 to ITA Round 2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Purdue picked up seven wins on day one of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional.

The tournament began with the round of 128 open singles where five Boilermakers advanced to the round of 64. Four Boilers defeated their opponents in straight sets with Kennedy Gibbs, Calissa Dellabarca and Juana Larranaga surrendering no more than two games in a set.

Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Gibbs advance to the next round and remain the only undefeated Boilermakers in singles action at 7-0. Gibbs's dominant start to the fall has already seen her surpass her freshman year win total of four. She has controlled every match she's played as she has dropped only two of her 16 total sets played. 

Csilla Fodor, Calissa Dellabarca and Juana Larranaga also cleaned up the competition in straight sets. Fodor shut down Alessandra Caceres in the second set with a 6-0 sweep to end the match, while Dellabarca never let her opponent get started. She allowed a total of three games across two sets from IUPUI's Grace Lampman. Larranaga did one better than Dellabarca by outsourcing Lauren Rowe 12-1 in their day-one competition.

The Boilermakers also advanced two of their three doubles pairs. Gibbs/Fodor and Larranaga/Dellabarca moved on with impressive showings in the first round. Gibbs/Fodor swept their opponent from Butler 8-0 while Larranaga/Dellabarca defeated Rinaldi/Fisk 8-3. 

Two singles players and a doubles team will shift to the consolation bracket where Tara Milic, Antonia Pareja and Milic/Guevara will look to scavenge for their first wins of the tournament.
