ROSEMONT, Ill. – Daryn Wright's springboard sweep in Purdue's season-opening dual meet win at Notre Dame has earned the sophomore her second career Big Ten Diver of the Week honor.
Wright was one of five Boilermakers to sweep their premier individual events in South Bend. The Purdue women won 10 of the 14 individual events to emerge victorious at UND's Rolfs Aquatic Center for the first time since November 2014. Maggie Love (100 breast, 200 IM), Jordan Rzepka (springboard diving), Aaron Frollo (500 and 1000 free) and Coleman Modglin (100 and 200 breast) were also two-time winners in the Boilermakers' season opener.
Wright won with scores of 297 on 1-meter and 347.7 on 3-meter. She teamed up with Sophie McAfee for a 1-2 finish on 1-meter, one of four events in which the Purdue women went at least 1-2.
An NCAA Championships qualifier as a freshman and USA Diving national champion at the 2021 Winter Nationals, Wright was also named the Big Ten Diver of the Week after setting a pair of Purdue freshman records in a springboard sweep in last season's road win at Illinois. She also swept the springboard events a year ago at the Indiana Intercollegiates meet during the home-opening weekend. At the Big Ten Championships, she swept the consolation finals of the springboard events while finishing top 10 in all three diving events.
Up next, the Boilermakers compete Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at noon for their home-opening weekend. Springboard action will be featured again in the dive well.
