20+ Wins at Hoosier Classic

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After three days of competition, the Boilers return to West Lafayette with a whopping 23 wins across the entire weekend.

Every player who competed picked up multiple wins and a total of three players went unbeaten across the weekend. Kennedy Gibbs, Juana Larranaga and Carmen Guevara were all perfect across singles and doubles play. Gibbs and Guevara are the only remaining Boilermakers with perfect records in singles play at 6-0.

Day one was Purdue's most impressive showing as they picked up nine wins in 10 total matches. The Boilers swept doubles play squeaking out multiple tiebreaks from teams Calissa Dellabarca/Antonia Pareja and Larranaga/Guevara. Kibbs/Milic played two matches as a tandem on Friday and picked up wins against Xavier and Miami (Ohio).

Four of Purdue's five Friday singles wins came in straight sets, while Milic won convincingly in three sets with 6-3, 6-2 decisions in the first and third set.

Saturday saw 12 total matches across singles and doubles. Purdue won four of their six singles matches in straight sets. The Boilermakers were dominant as they only allowed one set to come within two games. In pairs, the Boilers smothered the competition by winning four matches by three or more games. 

The final day of play featured six singles matches. Three matches were won in straight sets with the most exciting match coming from Guevara. Carmen pulled out a 7-6 tiebreak in her first set allowing just one game from her opponent. She went on to defeat Indiana's Nicole Teodosescu 6-4 in the second set to seal her unbeaten record. 

The Boilermakers return to West Lafayette with five more wins than they recorded at the June Stewart Invitational. Dellabarca picked up the first three singles victories of her Purdue career while improving her doubles record to 4-2.
