NORTHFIELD, Ill. – The Purdue men's golf team posted back-to-back historic rounds to take the 36-hole lead at the Windon Memorial Classic at Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Illinois.
Purdue leads the 15-team field with a 31-under par 537 after rounds of 269 and 268. The Boilermakers lead No. 18 East Tennessee by seven shots entering tomorrow's final round. Northwestern and Indiana are tied for third at 22-under par, nine shots back, while Little Rock is fifth at 21-under par and South Florida is sixth at 20-under par.
Purdue's second-round tally of 268 is tied for the second-best, 18-hole score in school history, while its first-round score of 269 is tied for the fourth-best round in Purdue history.
Purdue was sensational the entire day, ranking second in the field in pars made (125) while ranking fourth in birdies (41) and tied for first with two eagles. The Boilermakers were a sizzling 16-under par on par-4's, eight shots better than South Florida and Northwestern. The counting squad combined for just eight bogeys in 144 holes during the first two rounds.
Senior Herman Sekne shares the 36-hole individual lead at 10-under par 132 (64-68). Sekne had nine birdies, an eagle, 25 pars and just one bogey on his round. His first-round 64 is tied for the fourth-lowest round in school history and he now owns four of the nine all-time rounds of 64 or better in Purdue history.
Peyton Snoeberger surged in round two to move into a fifth-place tie at 8-under par 134 (69-65). His second-round 65 was a career-best score that featured a five-hole stretch on the back nine that he played in 5-under par.
Nels Surtani is also tied for fifth after rounds of 68-66. Surtani had nine birdies and one bogey during his round, playing the par-4's in 4-under par.
Kent Hsiao worked his way into the lineup and it paid off with rounds of 68-69=137 (-5) for a 17th-place tie after 36 holes. Hsiao leads the field in par-3 scoring at 3-under par.
Sam Easterbrook is tied for 49th at even-par 142 (69-73).
Playing as an individual, Nick Dentino is tied for 12th at 6-under par 136 (70-66).
