WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Big Ten announced Purdue volleyball middle blocker Raven Colvin as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following the team's victories at Maryland and Rutgers.
In the opening week of Big Ten play, Colvin led the team with 16 total blocks and averaged 2.29 blocks per set over the pair of matches. Colvin returned to Maryland's Xfinity Center Pavilion after setting the Big Ten rally-scoring era blocks record there a year ago, only to follow it up with a season-high performance. In the 3-1 victory, she came out with a quick four blocks in the first set before finishing the night with 10 total blocks (1 solo, 9 assisted). Colvin complimented the effort with four service aces (one shy of her career-best) and seven kills (.385 attack %) to help Purdue earn its 1,000th program win. Additionally, her 16.5 points in the match were the most since the season-opener.
Meanwhile, at Rutgers, Colvin posted six blocks (1 solo, 5 assisted), marking the sixth match this season the Indianapolis, Indiana native has posted as many blocks in a match.
The honor marks Colvin's first Big Ten weekly award honor since her freshman year. In total, Colvin has received four weekly awards, with the latest just the second Defensive Player of the Week nod.
Overall, Colvin is the third Boilermaker to be honored this season. Over the last four weeks, the Boilermakers have earned five honors.
