NASHVILLE, Tenn. - On day one of the June Stewart Invitational, the Purdue Women's Tennis team picked up five wins across singles and doubles.
The invitational began with the Boilers and Commodores duking it out in singles. Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Kennedy Gibbs picked up super tiebreak wins while Antonia Pareja pulled out a straight-sets win with a 6-4, 7-5 decision. Juana Larranaga also fought to force a tiebreak when she controlled the second set 6-3 but ultimately came up short losing 7-10 in the tiebreak.
With three wins in their pocket, the Boilermakers ended their day with a fantastic showing in doubles against the Ole Miss Rebels. Purdue won two matches including a thrilling victory for Calissa Dellabarca/Juana Larranaga as they powered their way to a 7-6(2) victory in the fourth tiebreak match of opening day.
Purdue won five of its 10 matches on Friday and will gear up to face Louisville in doubles and Ole Miss in singles tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 23 starting at 11 a.m. CT.
