FALL BALL EXHIBITION INFORMATION
Purdue at Louisville
Sunday, Sept. 24 at Noon ET
Jim Patterson Stadium / Louisville, Kentucky
Teams to play 14 innings regardless of score
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball is returning to Kentucky for an extended Sunday scrimmage as the Boilermakers visit Louisville for a fall ball exhibition game for the second year in a row.
First pitch is set for noon ET at Jim Patterson Stadium. The exhibition is expected to feature 14 innings regardless of the score, likely contested as a pair of seven-inning games. Fall exhibition games are extended affairs in an effort to maximize opportunities for all players, specifically pitchers.
The game will be broadcast live by Louisville Athletics' flagship station, 93.9 FM The Ville. The station is also streamed live at 939theville.com.
Last fall's visit to Louisville was the Boilermakers' first since April 2017. Purdue played the Cardinals every year from 2011 to 2017 – odd-numbered years in Kentucky, even numbered in West Lafayette – before the annual midweek matchup went on hiatus.
Among active Boilermakers, Camden Melvin and Weston Gingerich both connected for a double in last year's fall ball game at Louisville. Griffin Lohman, Avery Cook and Malcolm Gilchrist each worked a scoreless inning of relief. It was also a 14-inning exhibition last season.
Purdue opened full fall practice on Monday, Sept. 11 and has held five of its 15 scheduled open scrimmages so far. Open scrimmages at Alexander Field are primarily scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons.
Jo Stevens (Hitter), Jonathan Blackwell (Pitcher), Keenan Spence (Base Runner) and Brody Chrisman (Defender) represented the team's first quartet of Fall Ball Player of the Week honorees. Those weekly premier performers are announced to the team after practice on Mondays.
Purdue's fall roster features 43 players – 26 returnees and 17 newcomers. Of the 26 returnees, five redshirted last year as true freshmen. Of the 17 newcomers, seven have NCAA Division I experience and seven are true freshmen.
