WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The 2023 Purdue cross country season begins on Friday, September 1, at the Winrow Valparaiso Open in Valparaiso, Indiana.
The meet, held at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, will open with the women's 5k at 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT, followed by the men's 6k at 6:45 p.m. ET / 5:45 p.m. CT. Updates can be found by following and connecting with the Boilermakers on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
Along with Purdue and host-Valparaiso, the Winrow Open field includes Notre Dame, Western Michigan, Calumet College of St. Joseph, Goshen College and Grace College. Fifteen Boilermakers will race at the season-opening event, eight women and seven men. Eight runners will be making their collegiate or Purdue debuts on Friday.
Friday is the 34th edition of Valparaiso's season-opening home meet. It was named the Winrow Open beginning in 2021, in memory of former Valpo head cross country coach Ed Winrow, who passed away in March, 2020.

Purdue is back at the Winrow Open for the third consecutive season. A year ago, the Boilermaker women were second as a team and the men placed third. In 2021, the women won the team event and the men placed second.

The campaign continues in two weeks when the Boilermakers travel to the John McNichols Invitational on September 16.
