WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – In 135 seasons of Purdue Football, the Boilermakers have never hosted a Big Ten opponent on a Friday. For the first time ever, Ross-Ade Stadium will be lit up on a Friday for a Big Ten Conference game, as the league and its television partners selected Purdue's matchup against Wisconsin to move to Friday, Sept. 22.
Kickoff time from Ross-Ade, along with the television network designation, will be announced at a later date. The conference contest, Purdue's first Big Ten game under head coach Ryan Walters, moves up one day from its originally scheduled date of Saturday, Sept. 23.
Along with the game being the first Friday night Big Ten matchup in West Lafayette, it also marks the first Friday game at Ross-Ade Stadium since the Boilermakers beat Ohio 44-21 six years ago (Sept. 8, 2017).
The game against the Badgers comes in the first month of the season and in the middle of a three-game homestand for Purdue. Four of the Boilermakers' first five games are at home. Following the season opener versus Fresno State (Sept. 2), Walters' debut as head coach, Purdue hits the road to face Virginia Tech (Sept. 9). The non-conference portion of the schedule concludes with Syracuse coming to town (Sept. 16) before the Friday night battle with Wisconsin (Sept. 22). The reigning Big Ten West champs close out the opening month by hosting Walters' former team, the Fighting Illini of Illinois, with the Cannon Trophy up for grabs.
