RALEIGH, N.C. – The Purdue track & field team began the Raleigh Relays with five runners in a pair of events on Thursday evening at Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, North Carolina.

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Purdue track & field team began the Raleigh Relays with five runners in a pair of events on Thursday evening at Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, North Carolina.
 
Two Boilermakers, junior Caleb Williams and sophomore Nathan Walker, notched personal-record times on the first day of the three-day meet, hosted by NC State.
 
Williams opened the day for the Old Gold and Black with a collegiate-best time in the 3,000m steeplechase. He finished in 9:08.77, a PR by nearly six seconds, to place 32nd overall in the 71-runner field.
 
Four Boilermakers raced in the 5,000m, led by Walker in 52nd overall among 223 runners. His time of 14:13.15 was a new personal best by more than eight seconds. Sophomore Brady Yoder ran his first collegiate outdoor 5,000m and was 105th in 14:30.19.
 
Fifth-year John Pieper finished 144th in 14:41.89 and junior Alex Frey was 199th in 15:12.66.
 
The Boilermakers continue the Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 24, in the women's 1,500m at 4:20 p.m. ET. The three-day meet concludes on Saturday, as Purdue will be represented in the women's 800m at 1:45 p.m. Hosted by North Carolina State, the Raleigh Relay field includes Big Ten foes Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State racing in the Boilermakers' events.
