Softball Secures 8-0 Shutout vs. Columbia

The Purdue softball team recorded its third shutout in the last four games with the 8-0 six-inning decision vs. Columbia. With the result, the Boilermakers improve to 6-3, while Columbia drops to 0-2.

ORLANDO, Fla. -  The Purdue softball team recorded its third shutout in the last four games with the 8-0 six-inning decision vs. Columbia. With the result, the Boilermakers improve to 6-3, while Columbia drops to 0-2.

Purdue totaled 12 hits, including the team's first triple of the season by Kiersen George and a double by Becca Edwards. Runs were scored by Alivia Meeks, Summer Scarmardo, Kyndall Bailey and two runs scored by George and Kiara Dillon. Echazarreta registered three RBI in the outing.

The Boilermakers are in their strongest offensive showing in more than four seasons, thanks to five consecutive games with double-digit hits.

Meanwhile, Mo Wimpee recorded a complete-game shutout with a 0.27 ERA. The senior allowed five hits over the six innings of work and one walk. Over Wimpee's four appearances, she has allowed just one run, which came on February 10.

The Boilermakers took the lead in the second inning with their first run by Meeks and kept them coming. Purdue scored its second run in the third inning with Jones' RBI, scoring George. At the bottom of the third inning with bases loaded, Echazaretta posted a two RBI single, batting in Bailey and Scarmardo. Then, Dillon added another run to bring the score to 5-0. The sixth inning closed the game with a triple by George and three runs to run-rule Columbia.

Purdue will face Bradley this evening at 5:35 p.m. ET. Purdue will return tomorrow with one game against Bradley at 2:30 p.m. ET and another against No. 23/25 UCF at 7 p.m. ET. The Boilers will close the weekend on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET against Louisville.
