WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue junior center Zach Edey has been named to the Wooden Award Top 50 watch list, announced today on SportsCenter and ESPN.com(.)
Edey is off to a sensational start as a junior, currently just one of two players nationally to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game (Butler's Manny Bates). Through two games this season, Edey is averaging 21.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game in just 28.0 minutes per contest. He is shooting 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the field and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.
In the opener against Miwaukee, Edey tallied 12 points with 17 rebounds, six blocked shots and two assists, one of just 14 players to reach those marks in a game since the 2010-11 season.
Then in Friday's win over Austin Peay, Edey scored 30 points with 11 rebounds and a blocked shot, while going 12-of-13 from the field.
Edey was previously named a preseason All-American by almost every publication and was voted a unanimous selection to the preseason All-Big Ten team after averaging 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds in just 19.0 minutes per game a year ago.
For his career, he has 818 points, 437 rebounds, 83 blocked shots and 56 assists in just 1,170 minutes, averaging 28.0 points, 14.9 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.9 assists per 40 minutes played.
