WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The 2022 Purdue cross country season begins at the Winrow Open in Valparaiso, Indiana, on Friday, September 2.
The meet at Sunset Hill Farm County Park commences with the women's 5k at 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT and the men's 6k is set for 6:45 p.m. ET / 5:45 p.m. CT. Updates can be found by following and connecting with the Boilermakers on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
Along with Purdue and host-Valparaiso, the Winrow Open field features Notre Dame and Western Michigan. The Boilermakers will be represented by 20 runners, 10 men and 10 women, and four will don the Old Gold and Black for the first time.
Friday is the 33rd edition of Valparaiso's season-opening home meet. It was named the Winrow Open beginning in 2021, in memory of former Valpo head cross country coach Ed Winrow, who passed away in March, 2020.
LAST SEASON AT VALPARAISO: SEASON-OPENING WIN
The Purdue women won the Winrow Open and the men placed second to open the 2021 season. The Boilermaker women's team's victory was led by an individual win in the 5k race by then-junior Emma Tate. Purdue also finished third-seventh and 11th. Individually for the men, Purdue was sixth, seventh and ninth-16th on the 6k course.
The Purdue women won the meet with 19 total points, ahead of Notre Dame, who was second with 41 points. UND won the men's team competition with 15 points, ahead of Purdue's 43.
NEXT UP: HEADING SOUTH TO TERRE HAUTE
The 2022 season continues in two weeks when the Boilermakers travel to the John McNichols Invitational on September 17. It is the first of two trips to Terre Haute, Indiana, for Purdue this season, along with the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in November.
