EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Kaia Harris was bestowed with All-America honors in the discus for the Purdue track & field team to conclude the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday.

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Kaia Harris was bestowed with All-America honors in the discus for the Purdue track & field team to conclude the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday.
 
Harris was 13th overall in the discus at her first NCAA Championships. It is the third Second Team All-America award for Purdue at the four-day national championships, after junior Isaiah Martin was ninth in the decathlon on Thursday and sophomore Safin Wills was 15th in the triple jump on Friday. Additionally, 10 Boilermakers accrued Honorable Mention All-America accolades in five events this week.
 
On a rainy afternoon at Hayward Field, Harris' best throw was 53.34 meters to earn the top-16 finish. Harris' day began with a throw of 48.66m, followed by her 53.34m. Her final attempt was a mark of 48.16m.
 
A recent Purdue University graduate, Harris concludes her Boilermaker career at No. 2 in school history in the discus with a throw of 56.53m. It is the best by a Purdue thrower since 2018.

On Friday, Wills earned his second All-America accolade of the championships with a 15th-place finish in the triple jump. The Second Team All-America distinction comes as Wills collected his best NCAA finish in three career events.
 
On Thursday, Martin was ninth in the decathlon to earn Second Team All-America accolades with a personal-best- and school-record-tying 7,708 points. It was Martin's fifth career All-America award. Additionally, four Boilermakers were bestowed with five total Honorable Mention All-America honors.
 
Along with Wills in the long jump on Wednesday, senior Kelly Cook was 18th in the hammer throw and the men's 4x100 relay finished 21st overall. All six Boilermakers collected Honorable Mention All-America distinction.
 
Fifteen Boilermakers competed in nine events at the four-day national championships. The men qualified in five events, their most since 2019, and the women have four entries, their most since 2018. The team's nine total entries are Purdue's most since 2018.
