CoSIDA Taps Becker as Academic All-American

Rachel Becker, the second athletic All-American in program history, was named CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team, announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Rachel Becker, the second athletic All-American in program history, was named CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team, announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday. The honor comes one week after receiving NFCA All-America Third Team At-Large honors in the shortstop position.

Becker graduated in May with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a 3.74 GPA during her senior campaign.

As one of Purdue softball's most decorated student-athletes in program history, Becker finished her Purdue career with a combined 12 awards between the Big Ten, NFCA All-Region and All-America committees. Additionally, the Lindenhurst, Illinois product set four program records during her time in the Old Gold and Black, including No. 1 in runs (149) and Purdue season-bests in batting avg. (.479 in 2021), doubles (18 in 2021) and walks (41 in 2019).

The senior, who scooped up First Team All-Big Ten and All-Region honors for two consecutive years, recorded a .429 batting average this spring. Not only did the mark lead the Big Ten (a feat she accomplished for two consecutive years), but also was good for third-best in program history. Additionally, the shortstop added her name to the Purdue season annals in three additional categories: on-base % (third-best with a .522 mark), slugging % (fifth with a .662 mark) and doubles (tied for fifth with 15).

During her Boilermaker career, Becker amassed a .394 career batting average, one of only nine players in Big Ten history to do so. In addition to leading Purdue history with 149 runs, Becker finishes her Purdue career second in batting average (.394), second in doubles (48), third in walks (100) and assists (473) and fifth in slugging % (.543).

Becker is the eighth Academic All-American in Purdue softball history, including the first since Lilly Fecho in 2016. Becker, who started in every game over the last four years, is also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten and two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.
