SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Purdue Women's Golf continued its strong play at the NCAA Championships, making the cut for the final round of stroke play with a 5-over 293 on Sunday (May 22). The Boilermakers fired their best round of the tournament to ensure that they will finish no worse than one of the Top 15 teams in the nation.
Purdue remained in 11th place at 29-over (301-299-293—893) after 54 holes. Not only did the Boilermakers make the cut down to the final 15 teams, but they grew closer to the top eight, only five shots back. Following Monday's final round of stroke play, the top eight teams qualify for match play to determine the national champion.
Playing her 128th round as a Boilermaker, Inez Wanamarta did not want it to be her last. The graduate senior fired a 2-under 70 for the team's lowest round of the tournament, helping ensure Purdue's place in the Top 15. Wanamarta started her round on the right foot with a birdie on the difficult par-4 10th. After a bogey at No. 12, she rattled off three birdies over the next six holes to make the turn at 3-under. The stretch included back-to-back birdies at the 17th and 18th. Wanamarta remained in red figures throughout her final nine, closing out Purdue's best round in the NCAA Championships. On the individual leaderboard, the Boilermaker is tied for 11th.
Ashley Kozlowski shot 74 (+2) for the second straight round, while Danielle du Toit added a 74 of her own. Kozlowski's round featured a pair of birdies, including one on the seventh hole. After making an eagle on the par 5 Saturday, she reached the green in two once again, leading to a two-putt birdie. The sophomore shook off a double bogey to start, playing the final 17 holes even par.
Du Toit recovered from a double bogey start as well and finished level par over her next 17 holes. She got one stroke back right away with a birdie on the par-5 11th. Her other birdie came on another par 5, No. 7. Going for the green in two, du Toit nearly made an albatross. However, the ball just missed the pin and rolled off the back of the green. From there, du Toit used her putter to roll the ball up the hill onto the green, just three feet short of the hole. She cleaned up the birdie, posting another solid round for the Boilermakers.
Sifat Sagoo recorded a 75 (+3) for her third round. Sunday was a grind for the junior Boilermaker, as none of her birdie putts found the bottom of the cup. However, she remained steady and limited mistakes throughout the day. With the Raptor Course showing its teeth, Sagoo recorded 13 straight pars to conclude her round.
Purdue has 18 holes to move up the leaderboard and crack the top eight for match play. The quest begins Monday (May 23) at 10:11 a.m. MT (1:11 p.m. ET) with the Boilermakers starting on the back nine for the third consecutive day.
