SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Despite playing in the afternoon, when most teams dropped down the leaderboard, Purdue Women's Golf improved on day two of the 2022 NCAA Championships. The Boilermakers shot 11-over in the second round, moving up to 11th place (+24) after 36 holes at Grayhawk Golf Club.
Helping Purdue post a better score on Saturday was the squad's performance on the par-5 seventh, the 16th hole of the day since the Boilermakers started on the back nine. Finding themselves in 17th and looking for birdies on the front side, the Old Gold and Black played the hole 5-under as a team. Along with a trio of birdies, Ashley Kozlowski made an eagle on the 494-yard hole. Going low on one of the final holes of the day allowed Purdue to jump back into the top half of the leaderboard, ahead of six teams in the Top 10 of Golfstat's national rankings.
Kozlowski joined Sifat Sagoo and Inez Wanamarta in carding 74s (+2) to match the low rounds of the day for the Boilermakers. Along with the eagle, Kozlowski added birdies on the final hole of each nine. The Littleton, Colorado, native finished strong, going 3-under on her final three holes.
Firing a 74 for the second straight day, Wanamarta went to 4-over for the championship and into a tie for 27th to lead all Boilermakers on the individual leaderboard. She got off to a hot start, recording three birdies on her opening nine to help make the turn at 2-under. Wanamarta birdied both par 5s on the back side, No. 11 and No. 18.
Sagoo improved on Saturday, shaving three strokes off her opening round. The junior birdied a pair of par 4s on the back nine, countering a pair of bogeys to head to the front at level par. Reaching the greenside bunker in two on No. 7, Sagoo's up-and-down from the sand added another Purdue birdie on the par 5.
Danielle du Toit was the third Boilermaker that birdied the seventh, part of a trio of birdies for the senior Saturday afternoon. She battled throughout her round, contributing to the team score with a 77 (+5).
Purdue returns to Grayhawk Golf Club Sunday morning (May 22), looking to move up the leaderboard once again. The Boilermakers' tee times begin at 7:25 a.m. MT (10:25 a.m. ET). Purdue (+24) is paired with Georgia (+18) and Texas (+24).
Following Sunday's third round, the field will be cut from 24 teams to 15 teams. The remaining teams will conclude stroke play with 18 holes on Monday (May 23) before the field is reduced to eight teams for match play.
