SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.Danielle du Toit fired an even-par 72 on the opening day of the 2022 NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club. The senior was one of only 17 golfers to play the difficult Raptor Course at even par-or better, and the Boilermakers fired a 301 (+13) to sit tied for 12th after the first round.

Entering the national championship tournament as the lowest ranked team according to Golfstat (No. 45), Purdue posted a better opening-round score than five programs ranked Top 10 nationally. The Boilermakers shared a four-way tie for 12th with No. 4 Wake Forest, No. 16 Baylor and No. 20 Michigan. Top-ranked Stanford grabbed the clubhouse lead at 1-over behind a 68 (-4) from Rose Zhang.

Following a bogey at the first, du Toit eased the nerves and caught fire for the remainder of the front nine. She got the stroke right back with a birdie at the second before hitting her third shot close at the par-5 fourth to get into red figures. After dropping a bomb for birdie at No. 6, the South African stuck her tee shot on the par-3 eighth to four feet. Rolling in the birdie putt, du Toit moved to the top of the leaderboard all by herself at 3-under. As the wind picked up for the back nine, she dropped a few shots down the stretch but still carded an even-par round to be only four strokes off the individual lead and tied for sixth.

Inez Wanamarta grinded all day long, especially after a rough start. The graduate Boilermaker was 3-over through three before playing the final 15 holes in 1-under par. A birdie at the seventh came during bogey-free stretch that lasted 11 holes. Wanamarta nearly holed out for eagle on the par-4 17th, leading to an easy tap-in for birdie. Her strong finish resulted in a 74 (+2), tied for 27th after 18 holes.

Sifat Sagoo fired a 77 (+5), while Ashley Kozlowski added a 78 (+6) to contribute to the team score. Kozlowski's round featured back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12.

After playing in the morning wave on Friday, the Boilermakers tee off in the afternoon for Saturday's second round. Purdue goes off No. 10 with Mississippi State (+11) and Vanderbilt (20) beginning at 12:36 p.m. MT (3:36 p.m. ET).
