First pitch Tuesday in the Windy City is slated for 7 p.m. ET. The Boilermakers welcome Evansville to Alexander Field for the first time for Wednesday's 6 p.m. first pitch. The $3 midweek deals at Alexander includes general admission tickets, domestic draft beers, hot dogs, popcorn and nachos. First responders and healthcare staff can also purchase $1 tickets for Wednesday game.
Purdue opens a season-long eight-game Wednesday. Belmont, Valparaiso and Michigan also visit Alexander Field over the 12-day stretch.
The Boilermakers are 3-2 in midweek action, including a 10-9 loss to UIC on March 29. The Flames scored 10 unanswered runs over the final three innings to stun Purdue. They won a key Horizon League series at first-place Wright State over the weekend.
Evansville has compiled an 18-10 record since opening the season 1-7. During their surge, the Purple Aces have swept three-game series with Tulane and Michigan State and split their four-game season series with Indiana.
Purdue has not played Evansville since winning two of three in the southwest corner of the state on the 2013 spring break trip. The Boilermakers were scheduled to depart for a weekend series at Evansville the day the 2020 season was shut down nationally due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Purple Aces join Bellarmine, Dayton, Northern Illinois and Belmont as the first-time visitors to Alexander Field this season.
Purdue's four Chicagoland area natives – Mike Bolton Jr., Ricky Castro, Cam Hill and Ryan Howe – all return home as the team makes its first of two trips to the area over a four-week span. The Boilermakers also visit Evanston for a three-game series at Northwestern the weekend of May 13 to 15.
Purdue last game in the Windy City was two weeks before Curtis Granderson Stadium debuted in April 2014. The Boilermakers played at UIC on April 1 that season and the stadium at Les Miller Field was officially introduced on April 17. It features a great view of the Chicago skyline beyond the center field wall as Purdue's hitting backdrop transitions from Mount Nittany at Penn State to the skyscrapers of the Windy City.
