PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Purdue women's tennis team started its final road trip of the regular season with a comeback victory over Rutgers on Friday afternoon, beating the Scarlet Knights 4-1. After dropping doubles, Purdue rolled to the match win with four straight set victories in singles.
Rutgers took an early 1-0 lead after doubles. Csilla Fodor and Seira Shimizu rolled at No. 2 against Jackie Lopez and Kristiana Zahare in a 6-1 win, but the Scarlet Knights won 6-4 and 6-2 at No. 1 and 3, respectively.
Fodor picked up her 27th win of the year with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tess Fisher at No. 1. The junior moved up to a tie for 10th on the Purdue single-season wins list with Dani Vidal (2012-13), Jennifer Embry (1998-99), Jennifer Rabot (2008-09) and Mary-Beth Maggart (1996-97).
Tara Milic quickly made it 2-1 for Purdue. The freshman rolled over Minchae Kim at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3. Carmen Gallardo Guevara put Purdue within one point of clinching with a 7-6(3), 6-4 win over Lopez at No. 2.
Juana Larranaga sealed the match for the Boilermakers by topping Daira Cardenas at No. 5, 7-6(4), 6-2 in straight sets.
Seira Shimizu and Rut Galindo were both one game away from winning their matches in third sets when play was halted.
