RALEIGH, N.C. – The Purdue track & field team began the Raleigh Relays with junior John Pieper in the men's 5,000 meter event on Thursday night in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Pieper finished the 5,000m race in 14:22.99 to place 77th overall out of more than 225 competitors. Thursday marked the first time in Pieper's collegiate career, outdoors or indoors, that he ran the 5,000m.
Pieper is one of nine Boilermaker distance runners competing in North Carolina this weekend. On Friday, Purdue races in the women's 1,500m at 4:25 p.m., the women's 5,000m at 7:29 p.m. and the men's 10,000m at 9:05 p.m.
As Purdue runs in four events on two days, the Raleigh Relays will feature 150 teams at the three-day event.
