WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Shortstop Rachel Becker was selected as Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
The senior, who ranks third in the Big Ten this season in runs scored, led Purdue with 11 runs in the team's six consecutive wins at The Spring Games over the weekend. The Boilermaker closed out the three days of play totaling 10 hits and four doubles on the way to a .476 batting average. Becker's success at the plate also included making base over half of the time at .522% and a slugging % of .667%.
Defensively, Becker helped to hold opponents to just five runs in six games over the weekend, including two shutouts. Her performance included a career-high six assists and career-best-tying 10 catches (most since 10 vs. Albany as a freshman, 2/23/19) in the victory over Niagara.
Becker's honor is the first weekly award of the season for the Boilermakers and shares the recognition with Ohio State's Jaycee Ruberti.
Purdue will return to the diamond on Thursday in Tampa, Florida, for the USF Invite.
