WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's golf team swings back into action this weekend at the Puerto Rico Classic, one of college golf's premier events.
Action gets underway Sunday at the prestigious Grand Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande, the site of the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open about three weeks later. New this year is that the individual medalist of the Puerto Rico Classic will receive an invite to the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open from March 3 to 6.
The field consists of 13 teams with a heavy dose of Big Ten (5) and SEC (4) teams. Two others, College of Charleston and East Tennessee State, have former Purdue assistant coaches leading their respective teams.

Purdue resumed its season at the Big Ten Match Play Championships, posting a 1-1-1 record en route to a third-place tie in the event. Its last stroke play event came at the Purdue Fall Invitational, placing second out of 12 teams in mid-October. Herman Sekne won that event and is coming off a strong showing at the Jones Cup Invitational.

Stretching along the Grand Reserve beachfront peninsula, with El Yunque rainforest as a backdrop, patrons will experience an epic 18 holes of championship golf. After competing at the Rio Mar Country Club since its inception, the Puerto Rico Classic has moved to the Grand Reserve Golf Club for the first time in 2022.

One of the elite tournaments in collegiate golf, the 2022 edition of the Puerto Rico Classic will be the 29th playing of the event – the first time, however, being at the Grand Reserve. Eight different teams have won the event, with Georgia being the only team in the field with a title (2006, 2007, 2009, 2015, 2019). Purdue has played in the event 22 times and finished in the top 3 three times. In its last three appearances, Purdue has finished third (2018), fifth (2019) and eighth (2020).
