WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the year with a dominant 7-0 win over Xavier at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Saturday. The clean sweep was Purdue's second in a row.
The Boilermakers took control of the match early in doubles. Csilla Fodor and Tara Milic cruised to a 6-4 win at No. 1 over Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham to put Purdue ahead. After the Musketeers responded with a 6-3 win at No. 2 the opening point came down to Juana Larranaga and Carmen Gallardo Guevara at No. 3.
The freshman duo staved off several match points to win in a tiebreaker 7-6(3).
Carmen Guevara Gallardo put Purdue ahead 2-0 with a straight-sets win at No. 2 over Anna Roggenburk, 6-4, 6-2. Rut Galindo cruised to a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 5 against Blessing Nwaozuzu to bring the hosts within one point of the win. Seria Shimizu clinched the match with a win at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4 against Anne-Sophie Courteau.
Purdue added to its tally with wins at No. 4, 3 and 1. Juana Larranaga defeated Anna Smith at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2. Csilla Fodor brushed off Imani Graham at No. 1 with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win.
Tara Milic added the final point at No. 3. The freshman roared back from a tough first set to win 1-6, 7-6(3), 7-5 against Kat Lyman.
