WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – In August of 2020 and in partnership with the John Purdue Club, vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski announced the creation of the More Than A Game campaign to assist the department in navigating the financial challenges set forth by the COVID-19 pandemic. Just over a year later, the support toward the campaign surpassed the $18 million goal set to position all Boilermakers for future success.
"We established this campaign with an ambitious goal of raising $18 million to help ensure our ability to support our student-athletes and avoid some of the drastic measures we have seen taken across the country," said Bobinski. "We are incredibly grateful to all members of the Purdue family for rising to the challenge and I'm beyond proud to say we have surpassed our goal. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our student-athletes and future leaders have been able to continue striving for success despite the many obstacles. We are excited about what lies ahead for Purdue Athletics."
The success of the More Than A Game campaign was bolstered by the generosity of Boilermakers far and wide whose contributions helped in saving potential cuts to programs, jobs, student-athlete resources, and more. The level of generosity displayed by Purdue Athletics supporters was critical in offsetting an inevitable budgetary shortfall.
"On behalf of the John Purdue Club and Purdue Athletics, we are extremely thankful for the impact contributors to this campaign have made," said Tim House, executive senior associate athletics director and associate vice president for development. "Despite the inevitable adversity, we have shown up and faced it together. We continue to be humbled by the unwavering support of the Boilermaker family."
In addition to a record-breaking year of generosity toward this critical campaign, contributions toward the John Purdue Club surpassed $9 million for the first time in school history and set a new record of student-athlete scholarship support for the fourth consecutive year – impacting all 18 of the Boilermaker athletics programs.
As Purdue Athletics aims to move forward beyond the challenges of the last 18 months, the focus remains on striving for excellence in and out of competition alongside providing the best possible experience for all Boilermaker student-athletes.
