WEST LAFAYETTE - A special welcome back will be extended at Ross-Ade Stadium during the Purdue Football game vs. Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 25, as the Boilermakers' 2000 team, which famously earned a trip to the 2001 Rose Bowl Game, will be honored.
Led by legendary quarterback Drew Brees, many standouts will be on hand at Ross-Ade for the day, including defensive end Akin Ayodele, defensive tackle Brent Botts, offensive lineman Matt Light, running back Montrell Lowe, defensive lineman Matt Mitrione, safety Stuart Schweigert, tight end Tim Stratton and wide receiver Vinny Sutherland.
Those renowned Boilermakers, and many more, will be in West Lafayette to see Purdue take on the Fighting Illini, a matchup that kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
The 2000 Purdue Football team (8-4, 6-2) was one for the record books, winning a Big Ten Conference co-championship and claiming the league's Rose Bowl bid. Former head coach Joe Tiller led the Boilermakers to wins over three ranked teams that season, including a memorable 31-27 win over No. 12 Ohio State at Ross-Ade on Oct. 28, 2000.
Included in the festivities will be an in-game recognition of the Rose Bowl team during the first media timeout of the first quarter. Head coach Jeff Brohm's squad will be wearing throwback uniforms for the game, honoring the 2000 squad.
