GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Boilermakers are racing long course on the national stage this weekend, representing Purdue men's swimming & diving at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships hosted by USA Swimming.
Nikola Aćin, Nikola Bjelajac, David Forsyth and Brady Samuels are competing for the Boilermakers, with five events plus potential time trials on the schedule. The freestyle sprints are the focal point this week, with Aćin, Bjelajac and Samuels all racing in the 50- and 100-meter free. All three Boilermakers qualified for finals in the 50 Thursday, highlighted by Aćin earning a berth in the A final.
The four-day meet is being held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, which was also the site of the NCAA Championships in March and USA Swimming's Speedo Summer Championships (East Division) in August. Aćin was among the nine Boilermakers to qualify for NCAAs, earning All-America honors the 50 free and a pair of freestyle relays. Samuels' breakout year featured the freshman qualifying for A finals of the freestyle sprints and winning the B final of the 100 fly at the Summer Championships.
Aćin, Bjelajac, Forsyth and Samuels all scored in their premier events to help the Boilermakers win the three-day Purdue Invitational the weekend of Nov. 18 to 20. Samuels was the top individual scorer at the meet.
