ROSEMONT, Ill. – A pair of 400-point lists in a springboard sweep at Notre Dame earned Tyler Downs dual weekly honors as the Olympian was recognized as the Big Ten Diver and Freshman of the Week.

In the Boilermakers' Friday dual in South Bend, Downs was victorious on 1-meter (401.40) by 75 points and on 3-meter (431.70) by 59 points. Purdue had at least the top four finishers in both events. Both list scores were good for seventh best in program history.

Downs is the first Boilermaker to claim the Big Ten Diver and Freshman of the Week awards simultaneously since Joe Cifelli did it twice during the 2015 fall semester. Steele Johnson (October 2014), Jamie Bissett (January 2012) and Layne Rogers (October 2012) have also accomplished the feat for Purdue since Freshman of the Week was added to the Big Ten awards program for swimming & diving midway through the 2011-12 season.

Downs had the top-scoring dive in five of the six rounds in both springboard events. His 1-meter list was highlighted by scores of 74 in rounds 2 and 4. On 3-meter, he earned scores of 75-plus points in rounds 3, 5 and 6. He was also victorious on 3-meter, his Olympic event this summer, at the Indiana Incollegiates meet on Oct. 16 during Purdue's season-opening weekend.

Greg Duncan and Emily (Bretscher) Pfeiffer were Purdue's last Diver of the Week winners, sweeping the awards on Feb. 5, 2020, en route to winning Big Ten titles on 3-meter later that month. As fifth year student-athletes this season, Duncan and Pfeiffer are both six-time Big Ten Diver of the Week honorees.
