MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Purdue women's tennis team continued its march in at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional on Friday on the campus of Middle Tennessee State. The Boilermakers will have two entries in the round of 16 in singles and all three doubles tandems in the round of 32.
In singles, Csilla Fodor and freshman Carmen Gallardo Guevara each picked up a pair of wins to remain in the main draw. Fodor rolled in her first match of the day against Lidia Gonzalez from Kentucky in a 6-1, 6-1 decision. The No. 3 seed in the event then took down Tennessee's Esther Adeshina in straight sets 6-1, 7-6(3).
For Gallardo Guevara, the rookie took down Mayya Gorbunova from East Tennessee State in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. The Spanish international then rallied from a crushing first set to oust No. 6 seed Anessa Lee from Vanderbilt in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The duo teamed up in doubles to pick an 8-3 win over Mizuki Sakurai and Sina Albersmeier from Tennessee Martin. Tara Milic and Juana Larranaga posted a matching 8-3 win over Abi Solomin and Anastasiya Zholdakova from Belmont. Nathalia Wolf Gasparin and Rut Galindo finished off Alisha Reayer and Camila Romero of Memphis, 8-4.
A trio of Boilermakers punched their tickets to the round of 32 with wins in the morning but fell in their afternoon match. Milic ousted Elizabeth Pendergast from Cincinnati 6-3, 6-3, Wolf Gasparin beat Chelsea Sawyer 6-0, 7-5 and Seira Shimizu beat Maialen Morante of Kentucky, 6-0, 7-5.
Singles and doubles competitions continue Saturday.
