MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Purdue junior Csilla Fodor reached the semifinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional on Saturday after a pair of wins in singles play. If Fodor wins on Sunday to punch a ticket to the finals, she will earn a bid to the 2021 ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego next month.
The junior worked her way through a three-set thriller against Fernanda Carvajal from East Tennessee State to open the day in the round of 16, taking the contest 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. In the afternoon, Fodor rolled into the semifinals with a dominant performance against Camila Romero from Memphis, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Fodor will face the No. 1 seed Rebeka Mertena from Tennessee on Sunday.
A pair of Boilermakers picked up wins in the singles consolation flight by way of super tiebreaks. Rut Galindo outsed MaryAnn Rompf from Vanderbilt, 7-6(5), 1-6, 10-5, and Juana Larranaga defeated Jana Leder of Austin Peay, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
