WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue swimming & diving opens its new season and welcomes fans back to the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center with a pair of home meets, including a Friday dual vs. Minnesota and the return of the annual Indiana Intercollegiates on Saturday.

The co-ed meets are slated for Friday at 5 p.m. ET and Saturday at noon. Admission is free for all regular-season meets at the Burke Aquatic Center. Face masks remain mandatory in all indoor spaces on campus as part of the Protect Purdue protocols.

Last October marked the first time the Indiana Intercollegiates meet was not held since the Burke Aquatic Center opened in August 2001. The large meet featuring 13 universities from around the state once again shares its date with the Purdue Half-Marathon and 5K. Fans planning to attend Saturday's swim meet should take note of the road closures related to the races and plan to park in the Co-Rec lots north of the pool or McCutcheon Garage (corner of McCutcheon Drive & Third Street) to the west.

The women's roster was split in half for the Black & Gold Intrasquad meet Friday evening. The final event is slated to be the 200 freestyle relay and the divers are expected to get a rare chance to race as part of selected relay teams.

Meanwhile, the Purdue men are set to open a season vs. a Big Ten rival for the first time since the 2015-16 season when they visited East Lansing for an outdoor co-ed triple dual vs. Michigan and Michigan State. The Boilermakers will return the trip to Minneapolis later this season for the annual Big Ten Triple Duals with Minnesota and Northwestern. The two-day meet is set for the weekend of Jan. 28 to 29. Minnesota's program is currently headlined by NCAA breaststroke champion Max McHugh, who swept the 100 and 200 breast at the national championship meet as a junior. Diving coach Wenbo Chen previously coached the Purdue divers from 2001 to 2005.

The Purdue men open the season receiving votes in the CSCAA top-25 rankings. Last season, they finished fourth at the Big Ten Championships and 17th at the NCAA Championships, both showings ranking among the best in the modern era of the program. Nikola Aćin, Ben Bramley, Greg Duncan, Nick Sherman and Ryan Hrosik are all back after helping the Boilermakers score in a program-record seven events at NCAAs.

Divers Emily (Bretscher) Pfeiffer, Maggie Merriman and Maycey Vieta headline the women's returnees. They teamed up to account for 56 points at the NCAA Championships, the top total among any team of women's divers in 2021, to give the Boilermakers a 20th-place showing overall. Last month, junior Kate Beavon won the 5000-meter race at the CSCAA Open Water Nationals in Lawrence, Kansas.
