WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Women's Basketball head coach Katie Gearlds and student-athletes Madison Layden, Cassidy Hardin and Jeanae Terry will represent the Boilermakers at Big Ten Women's Basketball Media Day on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Big Ten Conference and Big Ten Network brought all its men's and women's programs together in the Circle City for a two-day summit ahead of the 2021-22 season. Both of Purdue's teams will participate on Friday with coverage to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Coach Gearlds and the Boilermakers will start bright and early with one-on-one interviews at 8 a.m. The media day schedule will have the group bounce between BTN, ESPN, WNBA and other digital groups. Gearlds will take questions for a televised press conference on BTN at 8:50 a.m., ahead of Purdue Men's Basketball head coach Matt Painter.
Gearlds enters her first season at the helm of her alma mater. The 2007 All-American returns to West Lafayette after one of the most prolific scoring careers in program history. The Beech Grove, Ind., native was the seventh overall pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft to the Seattle Storm, the highest selection by a Boilermaker.
After a six-year professional career, Gearlds took over the reins at NAIA Marian, where she posted a 228-50 record over eight seasons, winning two NAIA National Championships and three NAIA National Coach of the Year honors.
Sophomore guard Madison Layden will look to build on one of the best all-around freshman campaigns in Purdue history. The Big Ten All-Freshman Team honoree was the only rookie from the league to tally 65 assists and 45 steals in the regular season last year. A consistent shooter from the outside, Layden led the team with 45 3-pointer during her first campaign.
Senior Cassidy Hardin will give the Boilermakers another hot hand on the outside. The Bargersville, Ind., native has 76 triples in her career with just 10 other field goals from inside the arc. Transfer Jeanae Terry made the most of her time as a two-year starter at Illinois. The junior averaged 8.2 points, 3.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds as a 34.1% shooter over the last two season.
