TULSA, Okla. – Purdue Men's Tennis senior Athell Bennett dropped the opening match of the qualifying rounds for the 2021 ITA All-American Championships.
The senior faced Wake Forest's Filippo Moroni at the Michael D. Chase Tennis Center on the campus of Tulsa University.
In his fifth match since the 2019-20 season was cut short, Bennett fell 6-2, 6-1.
A day later, Bennett faced Tomas Bosancic from Princeton in the first round of the qualifying consolation draw. The Ivy Leaguer topped the Boilermaker over three grueling sets, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1.
Still young in the fall season, the Boilermakers will be back in action for the Louisville Invitational on Oct. 15.
