WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Women's cross country and football were recognized with team academic awards and 29 student-athletes were honored individually as part of Purdue Athletics' annual Boilers Back in Action event, which returned to an in-person event on the eve of the opening of the fall semester.
Women's cross country claimed the President's Cup for having the department's best grade-point average (3.76) during the 2021 spring semester. The Provost's Award went to football for having the most-improved GPA during the previous semester. The program raised its team mark in a big way thanks to have 27 student-athletes with a 3.5-plus GPA and 72 with a mark of 3.0 or better.
A dozen student-athletes received the Ben Korschot Perseverance Award, which is awarded to Purdue student-athletes who exemplify the spirit of determination that makes walk-ons successful. It is named after former football walk-on Ben Korschot.
The Durham Brothers Leadership Award, established by former football players John and Bull Durham, was bestowed upon 17 Boilermakers. It recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated leadership to teammates through their positive attitude, strong work ethic and overall commitment to excellence.
All-Americans from the 2020-21 school year were also recognized Sunday. Purdue Athletics had 28 student-athletes earn All-America accolades, a list that included at least one representative from seven teams/sports.
