WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue diver Ben Bramley, an NCAA silver medalist and three-time medalist at the Big Ten Championships, has earned the highest dual-excellence honor bestowed upon a student-athlete, Academic All-America accolades for his 3.89 cumulative grade-point average.
Through his junior season, Bramley has excelled at Purdue as a finance major and platform diving specialist. He's the sixth member of the men's program at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center to be recognized as an Academic All-American. He also joined two-time Academic All-America honoree Jamie Bissett (2014-15) as Purdue divers to be recognized
Bramley was a second-team honoree as part of the at-large category that includes sports like swimming & diving, wrestling, lacrosse, ice hockey, tennis, golf and many others. With so many sports in the mix, the at-large teams are among the most elite in the Academic All-America program, of which the honorees are selected by the College Sports Information Director of America. The criteria for nomination is sophomores and older with a minimum 3.3 GPA.
Fellow Boilermakers Emily Bretscher (diving), Max Lyon (wrestling) and Joe Weiler (golf) were also Academic All-America candidates on the at-large ballot after joining Bramley as Academic All-District honorees in Region 5 last month.
Bramley and Indiana's Andrew Capobianco, a 3-meter Olympian for Team USA and an NCAA champion, were the only divers selected to the men's Academic All-America teams this year. Big Ten divers Abigail Knapton (Nebraska) and Amanda Ling (Michigan State) were also recognized on the women's side.
Bramley won silver on the tower at the 2021 NCAA Championships, teaming up with Olympian Brandon Loschiavo for the first 1-2 finish by any university in any diving event since Auburn (also on platform) in 2005. It was his third career All-America honor in the event. At Big Tens, he scored in all three diving events and became just the fifth Purdue diver (men and women) to medal in three consecutive seasons. The Massachusetts native has won a silver (2020) and a pair of bronze medals (2019, 2021) on the tower at Big Tens.
For his excellence in the classroom, Bramley is also a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American as well as a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
