Boilermakers Win Three Medals at FIBA U19 World Cup

RIGA, Latvia – Three Boilermakers represented their countries with flying colors at the FIBA U19 World Cup held in Latvia over the last eight days.

RIGA, Latvia – Three Boilermakers represented their countries with flying colors at the FIBA U19 World Cup held in Latvia over the last eight days.
 
Sophomore Jaden Ivey and freshman Caleb Furst helped Team USA to the gold medal while sophomore Zach Edey paced Team Canada to a bronze medal. Both Edey and Ivey were named to the FIBA U19 World Cup All-Star 5 Team.
 
Ivey had an outstanding tournament, helping lead the Americans in the Gold-medal game. Down eight midway through the third quarter, Ivey led a stirring comeback, pacing Team USA with 16 points while adding four rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block.
 
Ivey averaged 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.7 blocks in 16.5 minutes per contest. He shot 31-of-64 (.484) from the field and scored in double-figures in six of seven games. He tallied 21 points in the opener against Turkey. He ranked second on the team in scoring
 
Furst acclimated himself well in his first international competition. He averaged 7.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.6 assist per game in 12.1 minutes per contest. He shot 19-of-32 (.594) from the field and 12-of-16 (.750) from the free throw line and recorded just two turnovers in 85 minutes played. He scored 14 points with 6 rebounds in a win over Mali in group play, then tallied 14 points with 5 rebounds in bracket play vs. Korea.
 
Edey was one of the most-dominant players in the field, leading Canada to a 6-1 record and a bronze medal with the lone loss coming to Team USA in the semfinals 92-86.
 
The 7-foot, 4-inch center from Toronto averaged 15.1 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 42-of-75 (.560) from the field. He posted a cumulative efficiency score of 163 (23.3 per game) and a total plus-minus of 103 (14.7 per game). He pulled down a remarkable 7.0 offensive rebounds per game and played just 23.7 minutes per game. Per 40 minutes, he averaged 26.3 points and 23.9 rebounds.
 
He ranked ninth in scoring, first in rebounding (by 25 rebounds), second in field goal percentage, fourth in blocks, second in efficiency and first in double-doubles (6). He recorded five games of 15 or more rebounds. The rest of the tournament field had five.
