RICHMOND, Va. – Twelve members of Purdue swimming & diving were recognized as Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America for their 3.5-plus grade-point averages in conjunction with their athletic accomplishments.

The Boilermakers had 12 NCAA Championships qualifiers this season and eight of those student-athletes also earned Scholar All-America accolades. Nikola Aćin, Ben Bramley, Emily Bretscher, Ryan Hrosik, Ryan Lawrence, Brandon Loschiavo, Maggie Merriman and Maycey Vieta doubled up as the dual honorees – All-Americans at NCAAs and Scholar All-Americans for their work in the classroom.

Swimmers Elliot Cooper, Riley Kishman, Sylvia Kobylak and Brett Riley were also recognized as honorable mention Scholar All-Americans for their 3.5-plus GPAs coupled with an NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut). Kishman and Kobylak joined Aćin, Bramley, Hrosik, Lawrence, Loschiavo, Merriman & Vieta among the nine Boilermakers that earned all three academic honors this year – Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (3.7 GPA), CSCAA Scholar All-America (3.5 GPA) and Academic All-Big Ten (3.0 GPA).

Team GPAs remained strong as well. The Purdue men and women were recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams again. The women posted a 3.58 team mark and the men compiled a 3.37 GPA for the spring semester.

The women have registered a team GPA of 3.5 or better for eight consecutive semesters while building a cumulative 3.62 mark through the end of the spring term. Twenty-seven members of the team were on the dean's list for their 3.5-plus GPAs for the 2020-21 school year. Sixteen Boilermakers had a perfect 4.0 during each semester.

The men's cumulative team GPA was at 3.38 as the spring team came to a close. It has steadily climbed since the 3.01 mark during the 2018 fall semester. Seventeen members of the team were on the dean's list for their 3.5-plus GPAs.

Purdue swimming & diving earned 46 Academic All-Big Ten (25 women, 21 men) and 25 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (16 women, 9 men) honors for the 2020-21 school year. Freshmen are not eligible for those awards, but they are for the CSCAA Scholar All-America accolades.

Kishman graduated in May as a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-America honoree. Her classmate Bretscher has also been recognized four times. Bramley, Lawrence and Merriman were all honored for the third year in a row. As rising juniors, Cooper, Kobylak and Vieta have been recognized as Scholar All-Americans each of their first two years.
