WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Shortstop Rachel Becker of the Purdue softball team was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team. The honor comes on the heels of the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolade, both of which recognizes academic excellence.

Becker, who hails from Lindenhurst, Illinois, studies chemical engineering and will be entering the 2021-22 year as a senior.

The Boilermaker achieved excellence in all facets, where in addition to her academic nods, Becker was named First Team All-Big Ten after setting the Purdue record with a .479 batting average. The mark checks in as the fifth-best by a Big Ten player in league history and fifth-highest in the nation this season.

In total, Becker led the league in five statistical categories and was among the top 10 in the nation in three (batting average, doubles and doubles per game).

The shortstop started all 44 games this season, registering at least one hit in 36 games and powered Purdue to an 18-win COVID season. As a first team honoree, Becker will advance as a candidate for Academic All-America, which will be announced in late July.
