WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - InterMat and MatScouts announced their 2021 recruiting class rankings this week, naming the Boilermakers' class the No. 20 and No. 22 groups in the nation, respectively. Head coach Tony Ersland signed five individuals to national letters of intent in the incoming class, all earning top-200 national rankings from MatScout.

The top-25 ranked class marks Ersland's sixth in seven years as the Boilermakers' head coach and his first with five top-200 recruits. It's the first time since 2016 the program inked a trio of top-100 individuals, following the signing of Christian Brunner, Griffin Parriott and Devin Schroder in Ersland's second class.

Michigan native Stoney Buell is the top-ranked individual in the Boilermakers' class, earning the No. 74 spot after winning four state titles, followed by Ohio's Ben Vanadia and Dustin Norris at No. 90 and No. 94, respectively. Ersland's late additions, Hayden Filipovich and Tristan Ruhlman, also jumped into the top-200 of MatScouts final 2021 rankings, earning the No. 174 and 198 spots.

The group combined for four high school state titles this spring, with Ben Vanadia unable to compete in his state tournament due to injury. Buell took home a 189-pound state title in Michigan, wrestling up two weight classes from his junior season crown, while Norris took home the 126-pound Ohio state championship. Filipovich and Ruhlman won their titles in succession at the Indiana state tournament, winning at 195 and 220, respectively.
