COLUMBUS, Ohio – Squaring off with one of the top teams in the nation, the Purdue men's tennis team dropped its Friday match to No. 7 Ohio State 7-0.
Purdue was far from daunted playing two ranked doubles teams. Mateo Julio and Sebastian Welch fell 6-2 to the No. 4 team of John McNally and Robert Cash. First-time duo Tomasz Dudek and Andre Suzanne dropped a 6-3 decision to Cannon Kingsley and JJ Mercer. Michal Wozniak and Milledge Cossu were on the verge of pulling within a game when their match against No. 37 James Trotter and Justin Boulais at 5-3.
Michal Wozniak was the lone Boilermaker to take a set on Friday. The sophomore took the opening frame against No. 25 Kyle Seelig, before the Buckeye rallied from behind to win in a super tiebreak 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
Julio and Welch faced the No. 11 and No. 5 players in the nation, respectively, falling in straight sets.
Purdue will head to Penn State on Sunday for an 11 a.m. tilt.
