WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team completed their second match in two days, hosting Rutgers on Sunday at Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers won the match in dominating fashion 4-1.
Purdue took the early 1-0 advantage with a couple of tight doubles contests. Seira Shimizu and Rut Galindo dominated their match at No. 3 against Daira Cardenas and Jaci Cochrane 6-2. In a back-and-forth slugfest, Zala Dovnik and Nathalia Wolf Gasparin were narrowly edged at No. 2, leaving it to the match at No. 1 to decide the doubles point. Ena Babic and Csilla Fodor continued their dominance in doubles play this season, topping Maya Jacobs and Chloe Brown 7-5.
Ena Babic gave Purdue its second point of the match in dominating fashion, defeating Maya Jacobs 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1.
After Rutgers brought it back to within one point, Rut Galindo opened the gap back up for the Boilermakers, topping Jaci Cochrane 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
The match clincher came at the hands of Zala Dovnik at No. 3. After dominating the first set, the senior took a close second set for a final score of 6-2, 7-5.
Purdue will rest up before traveling to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan Saturday April 3rd. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
