Boilermakers Travel to Minnesota Thursday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue soccer team begins its final roadtrip of the regular season at Minnesota on Thursday, March 25, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, Minnesota.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue soccer team begins its final roadtrip of the regular season at Minnesota on Thursday, March 25, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The Boilermakers (4-3-1) are unbeaten in their last four matches, with three shutout victories in the streak. The Gophers (3-3-2) have lost two in a row and return home for the first time since March 6. In the Big Ten standings, Purdue is tied for fourth with 13 points and UM is 10th with 11 points.
 
Purdue is fourth in the Big Ten with 12.25 shots per match and a 0.838 goals-against average. The Boilermakers are sixth in total assists (10), shutout percentage (.375), save percentage (.781) and corner kicks per match (4.62).
 
Individually, redshirt junior forward Sarah Griffith is second in the conference with 3.88 shots per match and third with five goals and two match-winning goals. She also is fourth in total points (11), goals per match (0.62) and points per match (1.38). Freshman forward Nicole Kevdzija joins Griffith at No. 3 in the Big Ten with two match-winning goals. Junior goalkeeper Marisa Bova ranks No. 3 in the league with three shutouts, is No. 4 in minutes played (751:54) and No. 5 in goals-against average (0.838) and save percentage (.781).
 
Along with her team-best five goals and 11 points, Griffith paces the Boilermakers with 31 shots and 13 shots on goal. She has scored in three consecutive matches and in four of the last five and has a five-match point streak.
 
Kevdzija is second on the team with three goals, seven points, 15 shots and eight shots on goal. Bova has played every minute in goal and has allowed seven goals with 25 saves. She also has an assist.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. MINNESOTA
Purdue is 8-14 all-time against Minnesota and 4-6 in St. Paul. The two teams last met in 2018 in West Lafayette, where the Gophers earned a 2-1 win.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS
Minnesota is 3-3-2 on the season and 1-0-2 at home. The Golden Gophers return home from a three-match roadtrip, where they earned a 1-0 victory at Iowa before a 3-0 loss at No. 11 Penn State and a 1-0 defeat at No. 21 Rutgers. Thursday will be UM's first home match outdoors after its first three contests per played at its indoor facility.
 
The Gophers are second in the Big Ten in shutout percentage, at .500, and are third with 14.75 shots per match. Minnesota ranks No. 46 in goals-against average (0.873) and shots on goal per match (5.38).
 
LAST TIME OUT: STREAKS CONTINUE WITH 1-0 WIN
Purdue extended its unbeaten streak to four with a 1-0 shutout of Michigan State on March 21 as Griffith scored her fifth goal of the season. The Boilermakers had an 18-6 advantage in shots against the Spartans and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Purdue had five corner kicks to MSU's two.
 
Griffith led the team with seven shots and three shots on goal. Her score in the 67th minute was her fifth career match-winner. Freshman midfielder Emily Mathews added three shots and junior midfielder Aly Mielke recorded her first assist of the season and second of her career. Bova stopped all three shots she faced for her third clean sheet of the season.
