Five Boilermakers Ready for NCAA Track & Field Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Five Purdue track & field student-athletes will compete at the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 11-13 at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Five Purdue track & field student-athletes will compete at the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 11-13 at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
 
Seniors Brian Faust, Tamar Greene and Alexis Zatta, junior Isaiah Martin and sophomore Marcellus Moore will represent the Boilermakers as one of the top 16 competitors in their respective events.
 
The championships commences on Thursday, March 11, with Martin in the first four events of the heptathlon from 12-4:15 p.m. ET. Four Boilermakers compete on Friday, March 12, beginning with Martin in the final three heptathlon events from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Then, Faust runs in the 400-meter semifinals at 3:25 p.m. and Moore races in the 60-meter semis at 3:45 p.m. Zatta also competes on Friday in the high jump finals at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Greene competes in the triple jump at 2 p.m., while the 400 and 60 finals are set for 3:20 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.

"I am excited for Brian, Tamar, Isaiah, Marcellus and Alexis, and am looking forward to seeing them compete this week," Purdue coach Norbert Elliott said. "They've worked hard in a unique season to reach this point and earn this opportunity, and I know they'll represent Purdue very well. I am proud that we have a well-rounded group at NCAAs, which shows our consistency as a program and commitment to all event areas."
 
Purdue has five NCAA indoor qualifiers in five events for the second consecutive year.
 
BRIAN FAUST – 400-METER
Faust is seeded No. 13 overall in the 400-meter. His time of 45.87, which he set on Feb. 27 to place fourth at the Big Ten Championships, broke his own school record.
 
The senior earned his second NCAA Indoor Championships berth after he also qualified in the 400 at the 2020 meet and earned All-America honors after the championships was not held. Faust also raced at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he placed 20th in the 400 and 17th in the 4x400.
 
TAMAR GREENE – TRIPLE JUMP
Greene is making his first NCAA Indoor Championships. He is the No. 10 seed in the triple jump and earned a qualifying jump of 16.14 meters. The jump is ranked No. 3 in program history as the senior won a bronze medal at the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 26.
 
A first team All-American in the 4x100 relay and an honorable mention All-American in the triple jump at the 2019 outdoor national championships, Greene was 19th in the triple jump and seventh in the 4x100 relay.
 
ISAIAH MARTIN – HEPTATHLON
Martin qualified with the No. 12 seed in the heptathlon after he won a silver medal with 5,610 points at the Big Ten meet on Feb. 26. The second-most points in the event in school history, Martin recorded the best heptathlon finish at the conference championships in school history.
 
A junior, Martin returns to the NCAA Indoor Championships after he also qualified in the heptathlon in 2020 and earned All-America accolades. His 2020 bid came after he broke the school record in the heptathlon with 5,631 points.
 
As a freshman in 2019, Martin qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon and was 10th overall to earn second team All-America recognition.
 
MARCELLUS MOORE – 60-METER
Moore will compete at his first NCAA Championships when he races in the 60-meter dash as the No. 15-seeded runner. He ran a qualifying time of 6.66 seconds on Feb. 27 to claim bronze at the Big Ten Championships. The sophomore's mark is tied for No. 4 in the Purdue record books.
 
ALEXIS ZATTA – HIGH JUMP
Zatta competes at her first NCAA Championships two weeks after she won the Big Ten high jump title. She is seeded No. 15 in the high jump at the national championships after a jump of 1.81 meters to win gold at Big Tens. A senior, Zatta recorded the sixth-best jump in school history.
 
UP NEXT: NCAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
For the third consecutive year and 15th time in school history, the Purdue men's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, set for March 15 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Boilermakers will race at a third straight NCAA meet as a team for the second time in program history, joining the 1946-50 squads.
 
Following this weekend's two NCAA championships, the Purdue track & field team's outdoor season will begin, and the schedule will be announced when it is finalized.
