WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's tennis team squared off against Michigan State on Saturday in their first home match of the 2021 season, falling to the Spartans 5-2.
The Boilermakers dropped the doubles point with losses at No.1 and No.2, 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. Tomasz Dudek and Santiago Galan were battling back from a 5-2 deficit when their match was halted.
After Michigan State took a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 4, Mateo Julio gave Purdue its first point of the match, when he took down Josh Mukherjee 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1. The Argentina native remained undefeated on the season.
Following Purdue's loss at No.6, Sebastian Welch clinched the second point for Purdue, winning in straight sets against Nick Williams 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2.
Purdue dropped matches No. 3 and No. 5, sealing the victory for Michigan State.
The Boilermakers will look to bounce back at home on Sunday against No. 14 Michigan. The match is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
