JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Joe Weiler fired rounds of 67 and 66 to take the 36-hole lead at the Timuquana Collegiate, leading Purdue to sit in ninth place after two rounds at the Timuquana Country Club.
 
The Boilermakers totaled a 7-under par 569 (291-278) to sit in ninth place, just one shot behind sixth place occupied by North Florida, Notre Dame and No. 14-ranked Oklahoma State.
 
Purdue struggled in the opening round of the 2020-21 season, posting a 3-over par 291 while registering just 13 birdies in the first round. Purdue responded with a 10-under par 278, the fifth-best round of the day to jump to ninth place.
 
The 278 is the 23rd-best round, but the 14th-best round in relation to par, in school history.
 
Meanwhile, Joe Weiler showed no signs of rust in his first round of the 2021 season, firing an 11-under par 133 (67-66). Weiler recorded 10 birdies, an eagle and 24 pars against just one bogey on opening day. His second-round 66 is tied for the 20th-best, 18-hole score in Purdue history.
 
Cole Bradley is tied for 32nd at even-par 144 (74-70), while Peyton Snoeberger (74-72) and Andrew Farraye (76-70) is tied for 48th at 2-over par 146. Nick Dentino is tied for 66th at 6-over par 150 (76-74). Playing as an individual, freshman Herman Sekne is tied for 51st at 3-over par 147 (73-74).
 
The Timuquana Collegiate final round will conclude tomorrow at the Timuquana Country Club.
