COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – As Scholar All-America Teams, Purdue swimming & diving ranked among the top five in the Big Ten Conference while maintaining its streaks of impressive team grade-point averages during the 2020 fall semester.
The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's biannual lists of Scholar All-America Team honors were released Tuesday. The Purdue men and women were recognized once again after both teams' GPAs remained strong during the first half of the 2020-21 school year.
The Boilermakers ranked fifth in the Big Ten among both the men and women. The women posted a 3.66 team GPA and the men compiled a 3.31 team mark.
The Purdue women have now posted a team GPA above 3.60 for three consecutive semesters and 3.40-plus mark for seven straight semesters. Sixteen members of the program had perfect 4.0s for the semester. Their GPA was up from 3.64 in the fall of 2019 and 3.41 in the fall of 2018. The team's cumulative GPA now stands at 3.62.
The Purdue men have also seen their team GPA rise over the last two years. Their 3.31 team mark this semester was up from 3.21 in the fall of 2019 and 3.01 in the fall of 2018. The team's cumulative GPA now stands at 3.37.
Michigan State led the Big Ten among both genders, with the women's 3.87 GPA also being tops nationally for NCAA Division I programs again. Michigan State, Penn State and Purdue had both of their programs each ranked among the top five in the league.
All 23 swimming & diving programs in the Big Ten – 10 men's teams, 13 women's teams – were recognized with Scholar All-America honors by the CSCAA. Individual Scholar All-America awards are announced in June along with the spring semester team accolades.
Across all three NCAA Divisions as well as the NAIA and NJCAA ranks, the CSCAA recognized more than 450 institutions as Scholar All-America Teams for the 2020 fall semester.
