7 p.m. ET Update: Unfortunately, Michigan State had to cancel its trip to West Lafayette due to positive COVID-19 tests coupled with contact tracing. The meet is still slated for 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. Purdue and Illinois will compete head-to-head on the women's side and the Purdue men will compete as part of an intrasquad meet. Dan Ross said the men's intrasquad will mirror the meet lineup he had planned for the MSU dual, feating the same events, entries and lane assignments.
DUAL MEET INFORMATION
Purdue hosts Michigan State (Co-ed) and Illinois (Women)
Saturday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. ET / BTN+
Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center / West Lafayette, Indiana
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the first time in 350 days, Purdue swimming & diving and the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic are set to host a full co-ed meet vs. Big Ten Conference comrades as Michigan State and the Illinois women pay a visit for Saturday's competition.
The 16-event dual meet, which will be a triple dual on the women's side, is slated to begin at 2 p.m. ET. Most of the women's individual events will feature two heats. Purdue's last single-day triple dual meet was in November 2018 vs. Wisconsin and Tennessee.
The Boilermakers had hoped to be able to admit parents to the mezzanine level of the Burke Aquatic Center, but ultimately it was decided that all indoor areas at the pool would be utilized as team space in order to provide a safe and socially distanced environment in an effort to comply with campus and Big Ten COVID-19 protocols.
The meet will be streamed live on BTN+, which is available as both web and mobile apps while also being offered by the top video streaming devices, including Roku, Google Chromecast and Amazon FireTV. BTN+ is available for free to viewers connected to the internet network of any Big Ten university. A monthly pass is also available for as low as $9.95.
Purdue has not hosted a full co-ed meet vs. visiting teams since the Big Ten Triple Duals concluded on Feb. 1, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both meets held in the fall were team intrasquads.
A January dual meet vs. Michigan State has been a regular part of Purdue's schedules this century. The Spartans are making their seventh trip to West Lafayette for a regular-season dual since January 2012. The 2015-16 season stands as one of the few exceptions. The Boilermakers opened their campaign that season with an Oct. 2 outdoor triple dual in East Lansing that featured both Michigan and Michigan State.
Illinois was a regular visitor to West Lafayette as part of the women's Big Ten Quad meet with Minnesota and Wisconsin from the early 1990s through 2013. But the Illini have not competed in a regular-season meet at the Burke Aquatic Center since the 2011 Big Ten Quad. In the years since, Illinois has had student-athletes in attendance at Purdue's pool for the annual Boiler-Make-It NCAA last chance meet as well as the Big Ten Championships (2017) and NCAA Zone C Diving Championships (2013, 2016, 2019).
The Boilermakers are also slated to compete against Minnesota and Wisconsin next Saturday in Madison. The Feb. 6 home meet at the Burke Aquatic Center will feature Indiana and the Rutgers women.
