DIG CITY SEASON 2 EPISODE 3 ON SIGNING DAY
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Head coach Dave Shondell and the Purdue volleyball program announced two prospects have signed their letter of intent. Under Armour All-America honorees and Indiana natives Raven Colvin and Ali Hornung are set to join the Boilermakers for the 2021-22 season.
Colvin, a middle blocker out of Indianapolis, Indiana and Hornung, an outside hitter/defensive specialist hailing from New Albany, Indiana are members of a 2021 signing class with an illustrious high school resume.
"Very seldom does a Big Ten coach welcome two young women with the remarkable attributes as Raven Colvin and Ali Hornung," said Shondell. "Two of the highest ranked recruits in the country, Raven and Ali possess elite skills, tremendous athleticism and a unique combination of leadership and competitive fire. When our state produces players who can make our team better, it is crucial that our program leads them to Holloway Gym."
Hornung received 2020 Under Armour All-America first team accolades, the only Indiana native to do so, while Colvin was recognized as an honorable mention. Purdue is one of five Big Ten programs to sign more than one All-America selection.
The pair hail from Purdue powerhouse alums. Colvin follows in her father, Purdue football great Rosevelt Colvin's footsteps (1995-98), by donning the Old Gold and Black while Hornung is set to join her sister, sophomore Marissa Hornung on the court. The 2021 season will mark the first sister duo on the roster since Danielle and Shovona Cuttino overlapped in 2017.
Raven Colvin
Height: 6'1
Position: MB
Hometown: Indianapolis, Ind.
High School: Heritage Christian
Club Team: The Academy
Quick Hits:
"Raven is a remarkable high-flyer who has electric speed along the net. Her intensity is inspiring and her genuine drive to succeed will quickly win over our Boilermaker fans. Despite her physical blessings, Raven's emotional skills are more impressive. I love the way she battles, point after point - while encouraging her teammates to join the fray. She is fun to watch."
Ali Hornung
Height: 5'10
Position: OH/DS
Hometown: New Albany, Ind.
High School: Providence
Club Team: Union
Quick Hits
"Ali is as skilled of a recruit as Purdue has seen in a long time. A multi-dimensional star in club and high school, the explosive six-rotation player will become a valuable weapon for the Boilermakers. Most-likely to focus on serving, passing and defense, Ali is more than capable of slugging it out along the net as well. Ali plays years above her current age."
