Dovnik, Ozturk Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Zala Dovnik and Zeynep Naz Ozturk were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes on Monday. The duo were among 1,430 Division I student-athletes to earn the national honor.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Zala Dovnik and Zeynep Naz Ozturk were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes on Monday. The duo were among 1,430 Division I student-athletes to earn the national honor.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. Ozturk garnered her first academic award after her freshman campaign, while Dovnik earned the laurel for the second straight season.

The Boilermakers were 5-8 on the year heading into Big Ten Conference play during the spring before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dovnik, also named Academic All-Big Ten, went 13-7 as a junior in singles play and 11-10 in doubles action. Ozturk was 3-4 in singles matches, including a split 1-1 mark in dual play.
